How to treat ingrown hairs

Posted by with No Comments

Ingrown Hairs are unsightly, painful and if not they are not treated correctly, it can cause scarring.

What causes ingrown hairs?

It is a condition where hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin. It most commonly appears in areas that have been waxed or shaved.  Breaking of the hair shaft can also cause ingrown hairs.

Tips on how to prevent and treat ingrown hairs.

  • Prevention is always better than a cure. Exfoliate 3 days after a wax.

You can use a granular scrub or a dry body brush, work in vigorous circular movements and pay attention to the areas where the hair grows in different directions.

  • If the ingrown hair is severe, you can use a topical treatment. These treatments are normally found in the beauty section of your local store. Check the ingredients as the ones with salicylic acid usually work better.
  • Tropical antibiotics can be used to treat ingrown hairs where the follicle has become inflamed.

Recipe for a body scrub.

Normal to dry skin
